Uri Bangtan Sonyeondan kembali memperpanjang rekor mereka sebagai grup Korea Pop dengan jumlah penayangan music video (MV) di YouTube. Pada Rabu (23/2/2022) sekitar pukul 09.30 waktu Korea, video music BTS untuk single berbahasa Inggris keduanya "Butter" secara resmi ditonton lebih dari 700 juta kali di YouTube.

"Butter" dirilis pada 21 Mei 2021. Hanya membutuhkan waktu 9 bulan setelah rilis, music video yang bernuansa ceria dan charming itu bisa mencapai rekor lain dari MV grup korea manapun.

Dengan ini, "Butter" menandai video musik ke-10 BTS yang mencapai pencapaian tersebut. Lagu lain diantaranya ada "DOPE", Fire", "Blood, Sweat & Tears", "Fake Love", "IDOL", "Mic Drop", "DNA, " dan "Boy Dengan Luv."

"Butter" tercipta setelah BTS mendominasi tahun 2020-nya dengan single tersukses "Dynamite." Bernuansa dansa dan ceria, lirik "Butter" sebenarnya merujuk pada dua ikon pop terbesar: Michael Jackson dan Usher.

Lagu itu dibuka dengan lantunan merdu Jungkook: "Smooth like butter / Like a criminal undercover." Hem, seperti sebuah anggukan pada hit Michael tahun 1988, "Smooth Criminal." kan.

Pada bait kedua bergulir, V menyanyikan "Pull you in like no other / Don't need no Usher / To reminder me you got it bad." Kiranya lirik ini terinspirasi oleh hit Usher tahun 2001 "U Got It Bad."

Lagu tersebut bermakna bahwa Usher jatuh cinta tanpa daya dengan gadis yang dia sukai. Tapi, dalam kasus BTS, lirik ini dibalik dan menunjukkan bagaimana ketenaran memungkinkan mereka untuk menggenggam kasih sayang orang yang spesial.

Arti lirik pada "Butter," pada dasarnya merupakan 'pengakuan nakal' terhadap ketenaran mereka di seluruh Bumi. Dalam liriknya, mereka mengatakan bahwa mereka sangat menawan, sangat karismatik, dan sangat halus seperti butter (mentega) sehingga membuat orang jatuh cinta kepada mereka dan ingin berjoget.

Ya jelas, ingin berjoget, ya ketika mendengar lagu “Butter”.

Dalam sebuah wawancara, Jimin menjelaskan keseluruhan tema yang membuat mereka membuat lagu, "Butter." Idol K-pop tersebut menjelaskan bahwa lagu "Butter" untuk easy listening tanpa adanya makna yang berat atau dalam.

"Ini sedikit memalukan, tapi itu sesuatu yang halus seperti mentega yang benar-benar meleleh dan menggenggammu. Ini lagu yang sangat lucu, semacam pengakuan," kata Jimin dikutip MusicTimes.
